Adapter system used in development reduces cost of ownership by 50-66%
SANTA CLARA, Calif., September 23, 2002-Emulation Technology, Inc. (ET), the industry's leading manufacturer and marketer of adapters, sockets and interconnect solutions introduces the 3-in-1 Adapter System™ for the Quad Flat Non-Leaded (QFN) and Micro Lead-Frame (MLF) chip package. This system supports the ATMEL® tiny26, tiny28, Mega 8, Mega 16 and Mega 32 8-bit AVR® Microcontrollers. This adapter system allows users to emulate, program and analyze with one adapter. ET's uniquely designed FlexProbe is an integral component to the system, providing a direct surface mount connection to the target. By integrating the three adapters into one, ET has reduced the cost of ownership by 50-66% by eliminating the need for a stand alone logic analyzer adapter, emulator adapter and programming adapter. Thus, design engineers save time, effort and money while completing their hardware and software integration.
The QFN/MLF package's growing popularity is representative of the need for smaller IC packages. More and more designers are working on applications with space constraints, and heat and power limitations. Using the QFN/MLF in designs helps engineers avoid the constraints and limitations. The QFN/MLF is smaller and thinner (consumes less area) than other similar leaded packages, it has a leadframe on the bottom of the package which provides excellent thermal performance, and the combination of eliminated gullwing leads and shortened wire lengths decrease self-inductance by half compared to a similar leaded package. The QFN/MLF 3-in-1 Adapter System™ reduces development costs and design time, while directly responding to test and design engineers' growing need for QFN/MLF signal access, probing and debugging solutions.
Each of the adapters within the system was created to meet QFN/MLF package testing needs. The logic analyzer adapter was designed for development engineers requiring signal access using a logic analyzer or oscilloscope. Likewise, the emulator adapter provides users demanding excellent signal integrity and easy emulation connections. For those users requiring a programming adapter, the programming adapter allows in-circuit programming, or out-of-circuit programming with the cables that are provided.
